Chuck Schumer Goes One Step Beyond Bonkers in His Attacks on Judges

One has to wonder whether "Cryin" Chuck Schumer has just plain lost his mind with Trump Derangement Syndrome. Standing outside the Supreme Court while the justices were hearing a case, Schumer directly threatened two of the justices on the court in terms that cannot be interpreted as anything other than a physical threat or an invitation to others to cause harm to the judges on the court. For a party that expresses outrage anytime President Trump questions a court decision, Schumer's threats cross a line. With this in mind, Chief Justice John Roberts issued an unprecedented rebuke of Schumer to make it clear that his actions were beyond the pale.

The Supreme Court is in the process of deciding one of the most important abortion cases in years. At issue is whether it can place certain restrictions on doctors who perform abortions. After President Trump appointed Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch to the Court, conservatives are finally in a position to win on an issue that is the lifeblood of conservatism. Democrats can do nothing but turn up the volume.

Sensing defeat, the Democrats have resorted to their normal hysteria to denounce anyone who agrees with their radical leftist agenda. Leading a raucous rally in front of the Court, Schumer either lost control or felt that he needed to pander to the crowd by talking tough. He directly threatened Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, saying that they would "pay the price" if they ruled to restrict abortion. It is hard to read this as anything other than a direct threat to their safety.

The Left and Right Weighs In Against Schumer

Condemnation for Schumer's words was nearly universal. For once, it came from both sides of the aisle. First, Roberts responded to Schumer's misjudgment with a show of force, stating in no uncertain terms that Schumer had gone many steps too far. Even noted liberal law professional Laurence Tribe sharply rebuked Schumer. Rallying to the defense of the Court, Mitch McConnell took to the floor of the Senate to make it clear exactly how unacceptable Schumer's threats were. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is readying a resolution to censure Schumer for threatening two Supreme Court justices.

It is hard to even put one's self in Schumer's head to contemplate what he was thinking when he uttered those threats. When pressed on his words, Schumer explained them by saying that he talks tough because he is from Brooklyn but did not mean it as a physical threat. He also tried to explain everything away by saying that he was referring to the political price that the judges would pay for their ruling.

Schumer's threats are only the tip of the iceberg for the possible lawlessness that the liberals will exhibit should the Court rule against them. It is not unreasonable to expect disobedience that goes beyond civil given the hysteria of the Left when it comes to abortion. Combined with an election year and their neverending war on President Trump, one can envision a scenario where Schumer's threats could be followed by action, especially given the attack on Republican Congressman by a deranged Bernie Sanders supporter.

Every voter in a Senate race should take a long look at Schumer before they cast a vote in an election. Contrary to McConnell's levelheaded leadership of the Senate, Schumer is prone to fits of poor judgment such as this. As Roberts pointed out, it is simply unprecedented and dangerous for a party leader in Congress to issue threats against members of the judiciary.

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land, and its cases should be immune from partisan political pressure. Even the liberal American Bar Association expressed its shock at Schumer's words.

Schumer Has Disqualified Himself From Being Taken Seriously

There are several things that Schumer needs to do if he has a sense of decency and responsibility. The first is to actually apologize instead of expressing half-hearted regret for his words and digging a further hole for himself by trying to explain what he meant. The second thing Schumer should do is resign as the Democrats' leader in the Senate for conduct that is unbecoming of a party leader.

Of course, this is Schumer that we are dealing with so neither of the two will ever happen. Nonetheless, one should now take his attacks on Trump and his temperament with a grain of salt.
